Heart Attack Warning Signs

Think you know all of the signs that something isn’t right with your heart? Think again. Some of the warning signs that you are about to have a heart attack may surprise you. Stop a heart attack before it happens by understanding what some of the most common heart attack warning signs are. They include:

  • Shooting pain in the jaw – Often pain that stems from something wrong with the heart shoots up into the jawline and runs down the left arm. Not every jaw pain is a heart attack trigger sign. Specifically, focus on the left side on the lower side of the jawline.

  • Muscle soreness in shoulders and upper back – After a workout or as we age, we may not think anything of muscle aches and pains, but if you have soreness in your upper back around the shoulders, take notice, especially if you cannot connect it to any recent injury or workout.

  • Pressure in the chest – Perhaps the one signal that most people know about that indicates a possible heart attack is a pressure in the chest. Some describe it as if an elephant is sitting on their chest. However, pay attention to any uncomfortable pressure.

  • Dizziness coupled with shortness of breath and chest pain  – An early sign is often dizzy spells. Although a lot of things can cause dizziness, it could indicate that a heart attack is in our future.

  • Fatigue – It’s normal to get tired when you’ve overworked yourself, but if you are feeling completely wiped out or having trouble sleeping night after night, it could be a warning sign that something is not quite right with your heart.

  • Indigestion or feeling nauseous – Heart attack symptoms and digestion symptoms can sometimes appear similar. If you’re having unusual gastric issues, talk to your doctor.

  • Breaking into a cold sweat – Changes like menopause may bring on sweating or hot flashes, but if you are not going through the change of life, it could be a sign that something more is going on.

  • Palpitations – When your heart lacks the proper amount of blood being supplied to it, it can become irritable which will present itself as a palpitation.

  • Shortness of breath – If after walking up flight stairs, you feel out of breath or generally finding it difficult to catch your breath or get a deep breath, it may be a warning sign that something is going wrong with your heart.

If you experience any of the above, be sure to be checked out by a doctor as soon as possible. Knowing the signs of a heart attack could save your life.
